Choosing a new mattress is not easy, and it is not made any less difficult due to the lack of an industry standard system of grading mattress; descriptions such as "firm", "medium" or "soft" are purely subjective, there is no way to assess how one manufacturer's soft compares with another's.
Of course there is no substitute for actually trying the mattress for yourself, that is assuming you can find the sort of mattress you are looking for in a shop to try!
Both my wife and I are quited light, so we wanted a soft mattress (contrary to popular belief a firm mattress is not necessarily good for you - or your back) and after scouring all the local stores we were unable to find one that was described any softer than "medium-Firm", they were all too hard for us. The salesmen were of little help, they wanted to sell what they had in store, and some were quite disdainful when we said we wanted a soft mattress.
After much searching on the internet we found this one; all websites described it as "soft", and over 100 reviews on Mattressman's website gave this 4 or 5 stars, so we took a chance. We were not disappointed; the mattress is very deep and feels quite luxurious; it is relatively soft compared to our old mattress, which is what we were looking for, yet it still provides good support, moulding naturally to your body - and most important it provides a good night's sleep. It seems very good value for money.
Mattressman delivered the mattress in less than 48 hours.
