I require a firm mattress yet long for softness. My solution was to use a double layer of mattress topper- bottom a memory foam and topped with a feather topper. Only found one place which sold a combo and it was rather expensive for one inch of each. Instead I got a 2 inch memory foam (very reasonable from ebay) with this feather topper- sublime
This topper was chosen as it had a thicker top of down with feathers on the bottom. There is no obvious smell but I still aired it for a couple of days. No feathers have leaked out and no poking felt (have used it for a couple of weeks now). It needs to be fluffed as expected with a feather product. The cotton fabric covering is good quality. Overall, very good value for the price. One thing you have to consider is your sheet covering. I anticipated this problem and bought a size larger flat sheet (King size for a double bed) as it can be very thick. Mattress protectors can be a problem too as they are usually fitted. I have given a review for the terry cloth one which I also bought from the same seller.
Overall- a very good buy and I'd recommend it.

60% goose feather, 40% down, 230 thread cotton casing double mattress topper. Does not appear to have separate layers of feather and down as indicated in other review but haven't experienced any problems with feather leaking as of yet.
